Family Village Character Editor
Family Village was a Facebook game I worked on as a contractor with Alpine Studios. My position was Technical Designer, and my responsibility was to manage the game assets and adjust game balancing. When I joined the team, I was one of only two people with previous game design experience. One of the key things we implemented was a new character editor. This design document lays out the approach we wanted to take with this new feature. We needed a way for the players to mix and match all the traits their avatar could have, but still easily layer the animation files to show that avatar in action.
We had a numbering and tracking system in place already for the other assets, so we aimed to leverage that system as much as possible here to save time in development and minimize risk.
